Sad Cypress

BY AGATHA CHRISTIE

A smart game of love and money.

An excellent Hercule Poirot mystery that plays with the minds of not only the reader but the magnificent Poirot himself.

Elinor Carlisle is accused of murdering Mary Gerard, a girl loved by all the town folks even Elinor's fiance. The pieces of evidence are strong. Only she had the motive, the opportunity and the time to administer the poison. Yet, Hercule Poirot presumed Elioner to be innocent until proven guilty. Or can he be wrong?

This is an unusual Hercule Poirot mystery. In this sense, the writing style and the atmosphere is different from all other Agatha Christie novels. The mind game, Christie used is simply brilliant. We turn the pages agitated thinking, "Who could it be?!" and the twist will take you by surprise. Not the best twist you would be hyping up for, but it can be somewhat satisfactory. The plot is extremely tight and is filled with love triangles, town gossip and white lies. Sad Cypress isn't as brilliant as the popular ones like Murder on the Orient Express. Nonetheless, it is a promising one.
