BY MITCH ALBOM
When people are advising others to be pragmatic this book reminds us that it's okay to be an idealist.
The story revolves around the small town named Coldwater near Lake Michigan where the residents start getting a call from the afterlife. As the news of this miracle spreads, people from all around the states starts camping in the town and waits for the miracle to happen to them. As the town sees a drastic increase of media, capitalists, religious folks and the opposition, Sully Harding, a grief-stricken single father sets out to find if this is a miracle or a massive hoax.
The characters' experiences, emotions, and community reactions are given more importance, making us think about, feel, and remember our own circumstances. At some point, you would know the plot's direction and feel it's slow. The insertion of too many characters will make us wonder what's happening to who. But the magical narrative of Albom will make you overlook the above defaults.
"The First call from Heaven" is a must-read for those who want to explore their reading boundaries and understand the never-ending drama called life. Personally, I would recommend this book to everyone irrespective of whether a person is religious or not. I can assure you that this book is a real treat for your soul.
