Tracking how much we have read is one of the ways to strengthen one's reading habit. Besides we can look back and get encouraged by seeing how much we have read or get motivated to read more. But one can easily get demotivated if the number is not what they expected. That's the road one shouldn't take.
The online catalogue which I use and highly suggest is Goodreads. I started tracking my read with the help of Goodreads and it is pretty good. There are other websites also such as Storygraph, Litsy etc. I recommend Goodreads especially because it offers things that I find super awesome.
1. Cool Reading Challenges
There's nothing more perfect than a reading challenge to motivate oneself to read (It can be also stressful sometimes, I suggest you look at the challenge track occasionally XD). I took the reading challenge this year and I am super happy with the results. So what are you waiting for? Join up a challenge.
2. Perfect Recommendations
Based on your read and currently reading list, Goodreads recommends brilliant books from the same genre. My TBR is filled with Goodreads recommendations and I can't wait to finish it and start a new one. Goodreads also comes up with theme-based reading. Currently, the summer theme is going on.
3. Bookclubs and friends
If you want to explore more in reading, you could join a Goodreads book club, interact with others to choose your next read. If not, you can follow people with similar book interest and track their reading choice and see if what they are reading is what you want. (Can be a bit stalkerish so be careful)
PS: Oprah's book club is in Goodreads
4. Blog and reviews
If you are a reader/writer, you can publish your works, write reviews and link your blog account in Goodreads. Personally, I got a pretty good response and feedback for my blog and works from Goodreads. Also, you could post the review you have written in Goodreads directly to your blog simultaneously.
5. Goodreads community
Apart from the above, Goodreads gives an opportunity to interact with your favourite authors, ask questions, participate in trivia, quiz, mark your favourite quotes and organise wonderful events like book swap, book club meeting etc.
Despite my enthusiasm to see you in Goodreads, at the end of the day it is your choice. My second option for tracking one's reading will be Storygraph. Although from personal experience, Goodreads is pretty basic and user friendly. Maybe I am old-school. Choose what's best for you and track your reads.
If you signed up in Goodreads (I would be happy) don't hesitate to follow me: https://www.goodreads.com/user/show/81178299-sakthi
PS: Goodreads is definitely good and I am your annoying best friend.
Until then,
Happy reading!
Yesss! Goodreads is definitely amazing. Whether it is What do I read next or Haven't I read this one already? Goodreads has all the answers!
Nice one🐰
